|Project Name:||National Action Plan to organize Awareness Campaigns for the Lebanese Coastal Communities and the Public Sector
|Description:||ECODIT developed a national action plan to raise the awareness of the general public and coastal communities on the threats facing the coastal zone, and mobilize the public into active participation to safeguard remaining beaches. ECODIT visited a number of existing marine facilities (aquarium, marine center, marine wildlife museum, etc.) and identified opportunities to support each of these facilities. ECODIT also proposed several new facilities to inform the public on marine wildlife, such as the establishment of visitor centers near Lebanon’s two coastal protected areas, a marine training center for young scholars and divers, and a National Center for Marine Sciences aquarium.|
The national action plan also outlined measures to support on-going marine turtle awareness programs and proposed using the marine turtle as a conservation mascot to spearhead the protection of remaining beaches in Lebanon.
