|Project Name:||Development of National Implementation Plans for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants
|Description:||Under the UNDP-funded project to phase out Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Lebanon, ECODIT prepared a preliminary inventory of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). ECODIT visited power plants and equipment graveyards to identify PCB-contaminated equipment, collected oil samples from inactive transformers, and analyzed test results to locate PCB stocks. |
ECODIT also assisted the Ministry of Environment in preparing a National Implementation Plan for the Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants covering PCBs, dioxins and furans. In particular, we helped assess priority issues related to POPs using a multi-criteria system designed by UNEP, then organized and facilitated a priority-setting workshop to build consensus on priority issues and actions and helped the Ministry finalize the plan.
