The Directorate of Environmental Affairs in Aleppo (Syria) obtained funding from the European Commission’s Life Programme to promote “Integrated Pollution Control in Aleppo.” ECODIT provided technical assistance to the Directorate under this project in the area of raising public awareness and participation as a means to (1) improve solid waste collection and the cleanliness of Aleppo city and (2) promote source separation and recycling of paper/cardboard waste.  ECODIT worked with the Directorate staff to develop a work plan for two public awareness and participation campaigns: “Make Aleppo Clean” and “Sort Solid Waste to Recycle Paper Waste.” Each work plan first clearly spelled out the objectives (goals, results, and criteria) of the campaign and then outlined the tasks and time schedule associated with achieving those objectives.
